Dr Tricia King - Program Coordinator, Bachelor of Design
Discover your creativity and develop your critical thinking through experimentation in an inclusive, exploratory environment. Design plays an increasingly important role in the world, with opportunities to specialise in interactive media, digital culture, game design, or visual communication, and to gain some practical skills in photography and fashion. Become equipped with theory, creative skills, cultural awareness, and critical thinking to shape a rapidly changing future.
Visual communications
This major allows you to experience all aspects of the design process, specialise in a particular field, or combine interests in layout design, advertising, photography, illustration or branding. As part of your studies, you will learn how to produce successful user-centred designs that address legal, environmental, social and ethical issues.
Digital Culture
You will discover the role design can play in shaping our future and gain the business skills you need
to succeed in the contemporary design industry. Taught by staff with real-world industry experience, you will graduate with a portfolio of professional work and direct employability pathways.
Photographic Practice
Develop photographic skills with a broad understanding of the technical, theoretical, social, ethical and political contexts of image creation
and viewing. Guided by industry and discipline experts, you will explore various aspects of photographic practice within the creative industries, including landscape and environment, advertising, documentary, portraiture, architectural and studio.
Interactive media
This major is a unique combination of technology, design, art and the sciences. You will develop a detailed understanding of interactive design and how it influences our everyday lives. Through practical coursework, you will design and produce creative solutions to real-world problems and graduate with a portfolio of creative work, ready to present to future employers.
Fashion Studies
You’ll learn and embed sustainable and ethical practices, and make a difference to the future of
the fashion industry. Understand the difference between fashion and clothing and develop brand strategies to match consumer trends. Studying with USC will prepare you for a career in the billion dollar textile, clothing and footwear industry.
Game Design
You will collaborate with your peers to bring your imagination to life through the creation of your
own game. Take advantage of entrepreneurial opportunities and create and distribute games, both individually and in teams.
