Many opportunities require students to travel, such as the Design Conference Brisbane. This yearly event, hosted in June, involves unique performances, workshops with design professionals and meet ups with a popular panel of creatives. This year the event hosted twenty-four keynote speakers, all in a variety of professions involved in the creative industries.
Other events are closer to home. During June, UniSC hosted a Murder Mystery Dinner. The event – written and directed by Bree Glasbergen – was described the event as a ‘brazen dark roast, gritty enough to leave you something to chew on.’ With creative industries students as the performers, the night entered turmoil as the whodunnit invited participants to either guess the culprit or create their own narrative in the form of script.
Open Studios Sunshine Coast are offering a list of various different artistic workshops, including pottery, glass blowing, weaving and plenty more. This opportunity is perfect for students looking further their knowledge and learn from experienced artists.
The UniSC design program offers Design Week in the middle of each semester which includes extended activities and special events and provides a great opportunity for the full cohort to come together. This includes seminars, field trips, networking opportunities, showcase events, projection nights and masterclasses with visiting artists and designers.

Intimate Immensity juxtaposes Compositional Utterances, as Ian Friend’s layered pieces focus on the materiality of making.
